Ngondro

2022-12-17T01:30:53+00:00

Having switched from Theravadan practice to Varjayana almost overnight during a particular retreat, I  have been interested in doing ngondro for the last 5 years but I was ‘deter’ from doing it from one of my teachers a few years back. He told me to ‘serve’ instead of doing the practice and I did take advice to heart. It was about that time I started working on this project with more gusto. For a while, I had […]

Pandemic Update

2022-12-17T01:20:48+00:00

Despite all the external and internal challenges presented by the pandemic on a personal front, it was a productive time for moving this project forward. Although I think […]

I was fortunate to have permission from my subject, the senior teacher at the monastery, to roam the ‘campus’ after our interview. It’s always an interesting dance between peeking into other people’s world with the camera but also respecting their privacy. For the most part, images from this monastery aren’t necessary the level of intimacy I […]

Pilgrimage

2022-12-17T01:32:07+00:00

I didn’t start this journey with too many expectations and was just generally excited to commit more time to work on this project. I had originally frame it as a ‘walkabout’ in the west but a wonderful teacher helped me re frame more along the lines of a pilgrimage. I was telling him that I had wanted to do a pilgrimage to India to visit some of the notable holy sites for Buddhist and he was quick […]
